1075 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he plans to commence a sub-measure of the Cultural Recreation and Sports Measure, the south and east regional operational programme, local infrastructure sub-programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2876/02]
The operational programmes for the south and east region and for the border, midlands and western region, provide in their programme complements that the Culture, Recreation and Sports Measure will commence once the National Spatial Strategy has identified the gateway towns. Once the spatial strategy has been completed, I will immediately begin preparations for the implementation of the Sport and Recreational Facilities Sub-Measure.
As outlined in the programme complements, this initiative will promote and facilitate the pursuit of healthy, productive leisure activities and lifestyles; address critical gaps identified in relation to the quality and supply of sporting and recreational infrastructure; and enhance quality of life and support local development especially through the creation of a strong sense of local identity and community involvement in leisure activities.
