Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

1238 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the position at Lumcloon national school, Cloghan, County Offaly; if conditions are considered unsafe in contravention of health and safety legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1882/02]

A building project to provide three new classrooms and ancillary accommodation at Lumcloon national school was approved by my Department and is currently at stage 3 of the architectural planning process. However, the school authorities recently requested that an additional classroom be included in the proposed building project. In the light of this request, a review of the accommodation requirements of the school is being carried out by the planning section of my Department. Factors such as demographic trends and availability of places in other schools in the area will be taken into consideration in the course of this review. A decision on this matter will be made and notified to the school authorities as soon as possible.
