Ceist:

1252 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science when he received the report on school bus safety; the recommendations therein; the steps he has taken to implement the safety guidelines proposed in this report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1962/02]

Safety on school transport is of paramount importance to my Department and Bus Éireann, who operate the scheme on behalf of my Department. The safety aspects of school transport is currently being examined by the school transport section of my Department together with Bus Éireann and the Department of the Environment and Local Government and a report is nearing completion.

Detailed consideration will be given to the recommendations arising from the report.
