Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Operations.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

320 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the amount of money paid by his Department to Garda informers in the past five years in the Sligo and Donegal divisions; if there is a system in place to ensure that such payments are monitored and accounted for; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3235/02]

The Deputy will appreciate that, on security grounds and due to the highly confidential nature of the information, it is long standing policy not to provide information in relation to persons who provide assistance to the Garda. There are standard procedures, under successive Governments, in relation to the accounting arrangements for expenditure under the Vote of the Secret Services Fund.
