Michael Ring

Ceist:

189 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the level of funding which has been given to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo for the provision of orthopaedic services. [7025/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 188 and 189 together.

In 2002 I provided a non-capital determination of approximately €650 million to the Western Health Board. As part of this allocation I provided in excess of €9 million for the continued development of acute hospital services in the region.

There has been a major capital development, phase 2, at Mayo General Hospital in recent years which provides for enhanced services at the hospital. A sum of €3.9 million was provided to the Western Health Board this year for the continued commissioning of the new facilities provided under the phase 2 capital development.
The detailed use of this funding and the phasing of developments at the hospital are matters for the Western Health Board. Accordingly, I have asked the chief executive officer of the health board to reply to the Deputy directly in relation to the detailed queries raised in the question.
