Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

197 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive an area based payment for 2001. [8349/02]

As stated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 175 of 12 February 2002, the 2001 area aid application of the person named has been fully processed and the area determined for payment is 67.99 hectares.

The person named applied for premium for 38 animals under suckler cow premium 2001. Payment of his 100% entitlement under this scheme has issued. The person named was paid €4,742.92 on 19 March 2002 under the area-based compensatory allowance scheme in respect of 27.92 hectares of more severely handicapped land, lowland, at €88.88 per hectare and 32.08 hectares of mountain land at €57.14 per hectare, maximum eligible area in this case is 60 hectares, and including an additional sum of €428.34 under a compensation package agreed with the European Commission for farmers experiencing losses under the 2001 area-based compensatory allowance scheme. The additional sum is equal to 90% of the difference between the average sum of the headage payments to the person named under the 1998, 1999 and 2000 headage schemes and the amount payable under the 2001 area-based compensatory allowance scheme.

Ceist:

198 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive a suckler cow payment for 2001. [8350/02]

The person named was paid €2,205.11 under the 2001 area-based compensatory allowance scheme on 25 September 2001 in respect of 24.81 hectares of more severely handicapped land at €88.88 per hectare. This compares with his average headage payment of €1,854.78 under the old animal-based headage schemes in the three years 1998 to 2000 inclusive.

The person named applied for premium for seven cows under the 2001 suckler cow premium scheme. In processing the application for payment, problems arose concerning animal tag number PMA922549. Further clarification was required regarding the breed of this animal. The animal died inside the six months retention period and was replaced as required under the terms and conditions of the scheme, but the death was not notified to the SWS Bandon. The district livestock office of my Department has been in contact with the herd owner advising him to have the details regarding this animal updated on the Bandon database. The application will be processed further when this matter has been finalised.
