Vol. 552 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

132 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the extension to Pullathomas national school, County Mayo; when this was applied for; the grant aid which has been approved; when he will approve the extension; and the stage the extension application is at. [12117/02]

An application for an extension at Pullathomas national school, which was completed by the chairperson of the school's board of management on 7 June 2000, is currently under consideration in the planning section of my Department. As part of this consideration process, relevant factors such as demographic trends, housing developments, current and projected enrolments and staffing levels are being examined in conjunction with an inspector's report in the matter. On completion of this examination, a decision on the school's long-term accommodation requirements will be made and notified to the board of management.

In the interim, my Department is grant aiding the rental of temporary accommodation at the school, to cater for the recent appointment of a remedial teacher.
