Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Service.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

569 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will report on the progress on the waiting list for orthodontic treatment since January 2002 in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin; when treatment is expected to commence; and the number of patients who have been treated since the beginning of 2002 to date in the Northern Area Health Board area. [13902/02]

I have been informed by the chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority, ERHA, that the number of patients receiving orthodontic treatment in the ERHA area for the quarter ended 31 March 2002 is 3,701.

However, responsibility for the provision of orthodontic treatment to eligible persons in County Dublin rests with the ERHA in the first instance. My Department has asked the chief executive officer to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.
