Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

182 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will have a REP scheme application passed for payment. [13490/02]

There have been a number of contacts between the applicant and my Department. The applicant is already aware of certain issues which must be resolved with regard to ownership of grazing rights currently forming part of his application. My Department will write to him within the next two weeks setting out the position in further detail.

Ceist:

183 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if anybody received an adjusted hogget price for female lambs between 30 kg and 55 kg depopulated prior to Christmas 2001 under the scrapie depopulation scheme; and if so, his plans to extend this adjusted price to all herd owners who depopulated prior to Christmas 2001. [13491/02]

The owners of sheep flocks which were depopulated as a result of scrapie prior to Christmas 2001 have been paid compensation on the basis of an agreement reached at that time between my Department and IFA, representing the farmers concerned. There were particular circumstances which gave rise to an adjustment in compensation for one flockowner whose sheep were depopulated in the period in question.

As regards the remaining flockowners, the terms of the agreement and the amount of compensation involved were clearly understood and accepted by all concerned at the time of depopulation. It is not proposed to vary the terms of payment applicable to particular categories of animals depopulated under the agreement.
