Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Marine Policy.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

188 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the new arrangements for the implementation of policy in relation to the marine; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13655/02]

At a ministerial level, responsibility for marine affairs falls within my remit as Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources. Specifically in relation to the allocation of ministerial functions, my colleague, Deputy John Browne, Minister of State, has assumed responsibility for aquaculture policy, coastal zone management and inland fisheries and I have assumed responsibility for the seafood sector, maritime safety services, including the Irish Coast Guard, maritime transport and marine tourism and leisure.

The Minister of State and I will work closely together to effectively manage and implement policy in relation to the marine functions of the newly established Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources. At an administrative level, the arrangements that were in place for delivery of marine policy prior to the establishment of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources remain in place.
