Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

1672 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs when a pension application for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be finalised. [15905/02]

The person concerned does not qualify for pension on his Irish record as he fails to satisfy the statutory qualifying condition requiring him to have paid a minimum of 156 full rate contributions. His application was refused and he was so advised on 15 August.

On the basis that he was previously employed in the United Kingdom, his entitlement to a pro rata pension under EU regulations is being examined. The British social security authorities have been asked to furnish details of his UK contribution record. On receipt of this information his entitlement to an EU pro rata pension will be examined and he will be notified of the position.

The person concerned has also applied for an old age non-contributory pension. His file has been sent to a local officer of the Department for investigation of means.
