Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

961 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress made to date in advancing the proposed paediatric accident and emergency unit at St. Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown, County Dublin; and if he will make a commitment on the provision of this unit. [15691/02]

I would like to inform the Deputy that approval has issued under the national development plan for a programme of capital works at St. Columcille's Hospital. This programme of work includes an extension, modifications and alterations to the existing accident and emergency department which are aimed at providing improved treatment facilities, including dedicated paediatric services, waiting areas and triage facilities.

Responsibility for the provision of services at St. Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has therefore, requested the regional chief executive of the authority to advise the Deputy of the current position in relation to this project.
