Ceist:1180 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will review an anomaly (details supplied) regarding medical card entitlements. [16998/02]

Responsibility for the determination of eligibility to a medical card is, by legislation, a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board. My Department has written to health boards requesting that no person whose sole income was a social welfare payment should lose their medical card at renewal time. This would also apply for first time medical card applicants.
