Ceist:

1303 Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Transport the information he has received on railway derailments; the number and location of such derailments, particularly in the west; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16835/02]

In accordance with statutory requirements, Iarnród Éireann must report to me any goods trains, mineral trains or engines leaving the rails on a running line, or any passenger train, or any part of a passenger train, leaving the rails.

Since 1 January 2001, there have been four such derailments on Iarnród Éireann's network, none of which involved passenger trains. These were as follows:
