Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Certificates.

Mary Upton

Ceist:

1368 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if an application for citizenship by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 will be processed as quickly as possible. [16107/02]

An application for a certificate of naturalisation from the person referred to by the Deputy was received in my Department on 12 July, 2001. Applications for certificates of naturalisation are generally dealt with in chronological order as this method is deemed to be the fairest to all applicants. The average processing time of such applications is approximately 15 months at the present time and I anticipate that the application of the person referred to by the Deputy will be finalised in the near future. When I have reached a decision on the matter both the applicant and the Deputy will be informed of the outcome.
