Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Mary Upton

Ceist:

1369 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if Ballyfermot and Sundrive Garda stations will be retained on a full-time basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16108/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources and for the day-to-day management of the force that there are 46 Garda stations in the Dublin metropolitan region, of which 43 open on a twenty-four hour basis. There are currently no plans to change the status of either Ballyfermot or Sundrive Road Garda stations.

The optimum use of Garda stations in the Dublin area is being considered as part of a major review of the Garda organisation structures under the Strategic Management Initiative programme of modernisation. That review is not yet completed. On completion, the review will be submitted for consideration by Government.
