Vol. 556 No. 2

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

110 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport the funding allocated in each of the past five years, 2002 inclusive, to the five year programme for traffic calming on the national network in line with the Government road safety strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19647/02]

Ceist:

126 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport the number of locations where accident reduction measures have been carried out to date since 1998; the number to be completed before the end of 2002; the specific location of all works to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19665/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 110 and 126 together.

Progress is ahead of target in extending low cost accident measures across the national road network, with 365 schemes completed on the national network by end 2001 with a further 32 approved for 2002. The specific locations of all works to date is a matter for the NRA. Low cost safety improvement works on non-national roads were introduced for the first time in 2000 and are the responsibility of the Minister for the Environment and Local Government. Funding for traffic calming on the national network is a matter for the National Roads Authority.
