Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tenants' Rights.

Dan Boyle

Ceist:

599 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has satisfied himself that tenancy rights for long-term tenants of caravan sites are suitably strong; and if he will propose measures as to the way in which this area might be improved. [20337/02]

Martin Ferris

Ceist:

626 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will consider introducing legislation to protect the rights of caravan site residents who at present have no safeguards against eviction and arbitrary rises in charges. [20117/02]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 599 and 626 together.

The landlord and tenant code, in respect of which I have some responsibility, would not traditionally comprehend the type of situation to which the Deputies advert. In this context, it should be noted that it is only in cases where the relationship of landlord and tenant exists that the current statutory protections would apply. I am not aware of any proposals at this time, arising either within my Department or within any other, which are likely to effect any change in this position.
