Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Crime Statistics.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

642 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of shotguns and other privately held firearms which were stolen in 2000, 2001 and to date; the number of these which were recovered; the locations they were recovered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20616/02]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the statistics requested by the Deputy are not readily available. However, the details are being compiled and I will forward them to the Deputy when they are available.

Ceist:

643 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the amount of illegal substances recovered in County Wicklow from 1 January 2002 to date; the locations where the seizures took place; if he will provide an estimate of their value; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20617/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a detailed breakdown of all drugs seized in County Wicklow for the period in question is not readily available. County Wicklow forms part of three Garda divisions. It would require a disproportionate amount of Garda time and effort to compile the information sought which, as the Deputy will appreciate, would not be justified in the light of significant overall demands on Garda resources.
