Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Fergus O'Dowd

Ceist:

728 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the staff numbers employed by her Department at each location in County Louth; when these numbers were last reviewed; and the result of this review. [19880/02]

There are two social welfare local offices in County Louth, namely, Dundalk and Drogheda, along with inspectorate staff in both locations. In addition, the accounts branch of my Department was decentralised from Dublin to Dundalk during 2002. Staffing levels in all areas of my Department are monitored on an ongoing basis. Following a review in April 2002 the target staffing levels for the two office are 37.5 in Dundalk and 24 in Drogheda. There are also currently 12 investigative posts in Drogheda and nine such posts in Dundalk and this is considered appropriate. The staffing requirements of the Department's accounts branch were determined in advance of decentralisation to Dundalk. In addition, there is one branch office of my Department located in Ardee, County Louth, which is administered by a branch manager on a contract basis.
