207 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the number and location of Garda stations in County Kildare in respect of which new, improvement or replacement works are planned or otherwise; the completion date in such cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21613/02]
A contract was placed in late October 2002 for the extension and refurbishment of an old schoolhouse in Rathangan, County Kildare to provide a new Garda station. Completion of the project is planned for July 2003.
A site was recently purchased on Station Road in Leixlip, County Kildare, for the construction of a new city type Garda station. A design team is to be commissioned for the preparation of a sketch scheme. On receipt of approval to the proposed sketch scheme the planning consultation process and tendering procedure will follow. All going well and funds permitting, it is envisaged that the project may be completed in 2004.
A site for the construction of a new Garda station at Carbury-Derrinturn, County Kildare, has recently been purchased. It is not possible at this stage to indicate likely commencement or completion dates for the project.
