Vol. 557 No. 1

Written Answers. - Domestic Violence.

Mary Upton

Ceist:

372 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will publish his Department's 2000 report into male victims of domestic violence; if he will increase resources to services to male victims of domestic violence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21655/02]

I presume the Deputy refers to the draft report Men and Domestic Violence: What Research Tells Us which was commissioned from external consultants by my Department in collaboration with the North-Eastern Health Board.

The draft report was presented to my Department in October 2000 and was then sent to relevant official agencies seeking their views.
As a number of issues were raised during this consultation process my Department has arranged for the document to be peer-reviewed. I will take a final decision as to the publication of the report and further funding when this process is complete.
In recent years my Department has made funding available to the organisation AMEN which provides services to male victims of domestic violence. My Department has also funded independent research, in conjunction with the North-Eastern Health Board, in relation to the incidence of domestic violence perpetrated against men in Ireland, as outlined above. Details of this funding to date are set out below:

1999 – £16,000 (€20,315.81)

(AMEN)

2000 – £10,000 (€12,697.38)

(AMEN)

2000 – £40,000 (€50,789.52)

(Research)

2001 – £50,000 (€63,486.90)

(AMEN)

2002 –€20,000
