Vol. 559 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

35 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Defence the progress made to date in regard to the proposed transfer of the Civil Defence school from Dublin to Roscrea; his plans for further decentralisation of any part of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26077/02]

The Deputy will be aware that, in the context of the White Paper on Defence, the Government decided to decentralise the Civil Defence branch of my Department to Roscrea, County Tipperary.

The Office of Public Works, which has responsibility for the provision of official accommodation for Government Departments, is in discussions with the owners of a building in Roscrea regarding leasing part of the property. I understand that planning permission and a fire safety certificate have now been obtained in respect of the building.

Tender documents are being prepared by the project team engaged by the Office of Public Works and tenders are expected to be invited early in the new year.

There are currently no further decentralisation plans for my Department.
