Vol. 559 No. 3

Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

110 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he will ensure that the massive cutback in funding for forestry in 2003 will be overturned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26220/02]

I am currently working with all sides of the forestry sector to ensure that the viability of and confidence in the sector is not jeopardised as a consequence of the level of funding available in 2003. In this regard I am currently examining mechanisms for focusing the resources available in 2003 on the planting programme.

Ceist:

111 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he has received the COFORD Report on Afforestation in Ireland; the conclusions drawn from the report by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26221/02]

I presume the Deputy is referring to the COFORD project on the economic contribution of the forestry sector to national and local economies. This is a project in progress and the final report has not been completed as yet.
