Vol. 559 No. 5

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 dealing with three separate topics. I propose to deal with these topics separately and I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

In regard to the first topic I have received notice from Deputy Ó Snodaigh. As he is not present, we will move on. In regard to the second topic, I have received notice from Deputies Naughten, Richard Bruton and Eamon Ryan. I call on Deputy Naughten to state the matter.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following matter: the urgent need for the Minister for Transport to outline the circumstances surrounding the subsidence on the main Dublin to Belfast train line in the immediate vicinity of the Dublin port tunnel works and to reassure the public of the safety of the rail service.

I call on Deputy Richard Bruton to state his matter.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the subsidence of the rail line close to the port tunnel works and the implications of this incident for the safety of the public using the railway and of householders along the line of the tunnel section of the port tunnel.

I call on Deputy Eamon Ryan to state his matter.

Séamus is probably already down there digging away.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 for a debate along similar lines expressed by the two previous Deputies.

I commend my party leader who cycled the 22 miles into the House following advice from Barry Kenny of Iarnród Éireann to seek alternative means of transport.

Having given the matter full consideration, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion. I understand the third topic has been withdrawn.
