Vol. 560 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

John Bruton

Ceist:

91 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when funding will be made available to allow works to progress to improve the water supply to the village of Clonard, County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2172/03]

The south Meath regional water supply scheme, which includes Clonard, is ranked as a post-2006 priority in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Meath County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the need for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme for 2002-04, published in April 2002. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council and the level of competing demand it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme. However, I understand that the council proposes to carry out improvement works to the Clonard water supply this year under the devolved rural water programme.
