Vol. 561 No. 2

Written Answers. - Employment Equality.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

357 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs her views on whether her Department has failed to achieve the 3% target for the employment of disabled persons; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3822/03]

Since 1977 there has been a policy in the public service to employ 3% of serving staff from amongst persons with disabilities. This Department has at all times actively endeavoured to maintain and, where possible, exceed this target figure. The current position is that 3.14% of the total staff of the Department are persons with disabilities.

My Department is fully committed to the policy regarding the employment of people with disabilities, in particular to providing the training and other support measures to enable staff with disabilities to develop their full potential.
