Vol. 561 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

428 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the national development plan outlay in the Waterford constituency for 2002; its percentage of his Department's total NDP outlay for 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4715/03]

My Department has responsibility for a number of measures under the NDP. These include: the child care programme; the equality for women measure; a programme to prepare prisoners for employment after their release; a crime prevention programme and a Garda youth diversion development programme. In addition a special unit has been established within my Department to progress gender mainstreaming across the NDP.

A sum of €2.33 million was allocated to the Waterford constituency in 2002. This represented approximately 2.75% of total funds allocated by my Department under the NDP in 2002. However, it understates the actual position as a significant proportion of total funding is national and it is not possible to distribute it on a county by county basis as its impact is of an indirect nature.
