Vol. 562 No. 1

Written Answers - Heavy Goods Vehicles.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

419 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Transport if the rules governing articulated trucks here are applied to non-national vehicles operating here; if such vehicles are checked; and if breaches of standards are enforceable on non-national operators. [5342/03]

Where vehicle-related standards in force in Ireland derive from EU law, vehicles registered in any member state are subject to the requirements when travelling on Irish roads. Visiting vehicles need not comply with standards that have been set with particular national requirements in mind. Similar arrangements apply in all member states.

Enforcement of the regulations is a matter for the Garda.
