The Government decided in September 2002 that in the present economic environment it would not be possible to provide funding for the provision of a national stadium from Exchequer resources. To date a sum of €3.1 million has been spent on the sports campus Ireland project, including the national aquatic centre, in respect of planning, site survey work and general preparation and development of the entire Abbotstown site.
