Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - Security of the Elderly.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

304 Ms M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health and Children if there is any health board scheme which provides funding towards the cost of an alarm for an elderly woman living alone; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10541/03]

The health boards and the ERHA have no formal funding scheme for the provision of alarms for older people. The Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources has confirmed that it provides funding for voluntary organisations which are involved in identifying and providing for the security needs of older people. The community garda in the area in which the woman in question resides should be in a position to advise on how the scheme is administered locally.
