Last year a working group on the jurisdiction of the courts was established by the Courts Service Board. Its aim was to examine the existing jurisdiction of the courts of Ireland and make recommendations as to any changes which are desirable in the interests of the fair, expeditious and economic administration of justice. This included proposals for the establishment of new courts jurisdictions, whether appellate or first instance, for determining the appropriate number of judges for each jurisdiction and the supporting staffs required in such jurisdictions and for alterations in the quantitative or geographical limitations of existing jurisdictions.
