On 13 May 2003, I announced that I had reached agreement with the Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government, Deputy Gallagher, to continue to support local improvement scheme roads projects in CLÁR areas for 2003. For every €2 spent by local authorities on LIS schemes in CLÁR areas, my Department will provide an additional €1 from CLÁR funding. Each local authority has been asked to provide details of its proposed expenditure on LIS roads in CLÁR areas for 2003. When this information is received, a decision will then be taken on the CLÁR funding to be allocated.
