Vol. 568 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

255 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will permit a primary school (details supplied) in County Cork to carry out work to the school if his Department does not make the necessary funding available. [16442/03]

My Department has no objection to the management authorities of the school in question carrying out improvement works to the school building without grant assistance from my Department.

The management authorities must ensure the proposed works comply with all statutory requirements, including building regulations, planning permission requirements, fire officer requirements and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations.

The management authorities must also ensure that the design of the proposed project also caters for the possibility of a future extension at the school.
