Vol. 568 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

281 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the enrolment figures for September 2003 for Maynooth post-primary school, Maynooth, County Kildare; the current capacity of the school in terms of pupil numbers of both permanent and temporary accommodation; if the provision of additional temporary accommodation will be sanctioned for the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16766/03]

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie

The extension project to cater for the long-term projected enrolment of 800 pupils at Maynooth post-primary school is at stage 3 of architectural planning and is included in section 7 of the programme. Given the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, I do not envisage that my Department will be in a position during this year to allow architectural planning for further large scale projects to progress beyond their current authorised stage.

The timing of when the project at Maynooth post-primary school can proceed to construction is dependent on the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years. In the meantime, my Department's building unit has recently written to the chief executive officer of County Kildare VEC authorising the provision of additional prefabricated accommodation. The September 2003 student enrolment figures for the school are not available.
