Vol. 568 No. 5

Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

305 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the funding available and allocated for the development of inland fisheries throughout the country in 2003; the current status of the ?30 million allocated for the development of the fisheries service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16572/03]

The revised Estimates for Public Services 2003 provide a total allocation of €21.029 million for inland fisheries. Under this provision, funding is allocated directly from the vote of my Department towards payments to the central and regional fisheries boards which are statutorily responsible for the development and management of inland fisheries. The total allocation also provides funding for the Loughs Agency of the Foyle, Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission, and the tourism recreational angling measure under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.
