Michael Ring

Ceist:

321 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if the employment contract has been extended for the chief executive officer of the Western Regional Fisheries Board; the length of time the contract was extended for; and when the Western Regional Fisheries Board will advertise the position for this job. [16786/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 320 and 321 together.

Persons appointed permanently as chief executive officers of regional fisheries boards cease to hold office on reaching age 65. However, the appointee may decide to retire at any time after reaching the age of 60 in accordance with the fisheries boards superannuation code. The contract in respect of the person in question has not been extended and the question of filling the vacancy is being considered.
