Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Residency Permits.

Olivia Mitchell

Ceist:

1181 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 16 will receive a response to their application for leave to remain on the basis of marriage to an Irish citizen in view of the fact that their entry visa expires in October 2003. [20501/03]

An application for permission to remain in the State based on marriage to an Irish national was received from the person concerned in September 2003. Applications of this type are dealt with in chronological order and take currently approximately ten months to process.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

1182 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding the legal position of a person (details supplied); if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this person, their friends and their legal and other representatives have been trying to gain clarification from his Department for several months without reply; if his Department will immediately consider this person's application for visa renewal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20502/03]

The application to which the Deputy refers is for an extension of permission to remain in the State. I can inform the Deputy that the person in question has been granted permission to remain in the State for a further period of 12 months.
