Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Student Support Schemes.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

1331 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the help which was given to students, following the abolition of the student summer jobs scheme, by the area partnerships; the students who were helped; the way in which they were helped, either practically or financially; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20209/03]

A replacement scheme for the student summer job scheme was never proposed. Rather it was anticipated that partnerships and community groups would offer practical assistance and support to students in finding temporary summer employment in the labour market as required.

Such supports are by their nature local and informal. Therefore, it would not be feasible to accurately quantify the extent to which these supports have contributed to students finding summer employment.
