Vol. 572 No. 4

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Joe Costello

Ceist:

182 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Health and Children the action taken by his Department into the serious allegations made in Parliamentary Question No. 154 of 11 June and which were referred to him by the Minister for Education and Science (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23626/03]

Responsibility for the provision of services to persons with an intellectual disability and those with autism in the Dublin region lies with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked its regional chief executive to investigate the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

183 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason an occupational therapist classified the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as low priority under the DPG scheme; if the circumstances of the household and the fact that this person is autistic were considered; if the South Eastern Health Board will examine the case again with a view to offering the family the type of support they should be entitled to; if correspondence to the board of 19 August will be replied to; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23654/03]

The provision of health-related services, including occupational therapy, for people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards in the first instance. The Deputy's question has been referred to the board's chief executive officer with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to him as a matter of urgency.
