Ceist:

156 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will report on the results of the investigation into the attempt by three members of the Garda Síochána to import illegal weapons, including CS gas, stun guns, pepper spray, and telescopic batons purchased in Germany; the reason they were not arrested and charged on arrival in the State; if their actions will result in sanctions; and, if so, the sanctions envisaged. Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell):

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the matters referred to by the Deputy are currently the subject of an investigation by a senior officer in accordance with the Garda Síochána (Discipline) Regulations 1989. As the said investigation has not yet been completed, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.
