Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Departmental Properties.

72.
Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Defence the status of grounds previously part of Murphy Barracks, Ballincollig, County Cork, that are to be transferred to assist the construction of a new Garda station; if this parcel of land will be transferred; when and the way in which it is to be transferred; and if a set consideration is being sought by his Department. [23806/03]

An area comprising approximately 0.545 acres at the former Murphy Barracks, Ballincollig, has been set aside on foot of a request from the Office of Public Works, Office of Public Works, for a plot of ground to facilitate extension of the adjacent Garda station. My Department is in discussions with the Office of Public Works on arrangements for the transfer of the lands concerned including the matter of a consideration therefor. The disposal of Murphy Barracks is proceeding in line with the White Paper on Defence of February 2000, in which the Government conveyed approval that the proceeds from the disposal of property surplus to military requirements would be used to fund much needed investment to meet the equipment and infrastructure needs of the Defence Forces.
