Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Airport Safety Zones.

James Breen

Ceist:

525 Mr. J. Breen asked the Minister for Transport when the task force report on public safety zones at Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports will be implemented; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25026/03]

As I referred to in my earlier reply to the House on this issue on 14 October 2003, the Environmental Resources Management or ERM report, which makes recommendations for public safety zones in the vicinity of Cork, Dublin and Shannon Airports is now complete. The report was formally submitted to my Department on 30 September 2003 and is still being examined.

It is intended that the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, subject to his and my approval of the report, will use its findings to issue, as soon as possible, planning guidelines to the local authorities to assist them in their consideration of the public safety aspects of planning applications in the vicinity of airports.
