97 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Finance if he has proposals to introduce a scrappage scheme for old cars which ran from 1995 to 1997 which saw 64,000 cars taken off roads; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25903/03]
I presume that the Deputy is referring to the pre-budget submission made by SIMI, the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, which called for the introduction of a scrappage scheme. As the Deputy is no doubt aware, it is not customary for the Minister for Finance to indicate in advance what measures, if any, will be taken in the budget.
