Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Olwyn Enright

Ceist:

268 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to a previous approval for a ?2 million extension to Tullamore College prior to the loss of 50% of the school by fire in 2001; the position at which the school stands in the school building programme; when funding will be provided to replace the portion of the school lost in addition to providing the previously promised extension; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26058/03]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Dempsey):

In August 1999, my Department authorised County Offaly Vocational Educational Committee to appoint a design team to commence architectural planning for refurbishment works to Tullamore College and to provide a small extension to cater for the accommodation needs of the school.

Following a fire at Tullamore College in June 2001, County Offaly Vocational Educational Committee undertook certain restoration works and the provision of temporary accommodation to cater for the school's requirements. My Department is of the opinion that the accommodation now available is adequate and capable of serving the school's needs for a number of years. Accordingly, there are no plans at present to make increased accommodation provision.
