136 Mr. Durkan asked the Taoiseach the trade balance with the top 20 countries with which Ireland trades; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30131/03]

The data requested by the Deputy is presented in the following table for 2001, 2002 and the period January to August 2003. August 2003 is the latest month for which data is available. The table shows the merchandise trade balance for the top 20 countries determined by the value of gross trade flows, that is, exports plus imports, over the combined period January 2001 to August 2003.
