Vol. 577 No. 4

Written Answers. - Postal Services.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

51 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he has now received the written assurance he sought from the chairperson of An Post that the problems experienced with Christmas post in 2002, when much mail was not delivered until after Christmas, will not be repeated in 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31257/03]

I wrote to the chairperson and chief executive of An Post on 6 November 2003 requesting written assurance from the company that relevant measures were being put in place for the Christmas period to avoid a repeat of the situation which occurred last Christmas. A response was received from the company on 14 November assuring me that An Post is determined to avoid the experience of last year and furthermore that a detailed operational plan for Christmas arrangements 2003 has been approved by the board.
