The first business on the Order Paper is the motion in the name of Senator Jameson, but the second item—Appointment of Committee of Selection—will take a little time. The Minister for Local Government has very kindly lent us Mr. Brown, of his Department, for the purpose of counting the votes in connection with that election. I therefore propose to take item No. 2 first, and, while the votes are being counted, we can proceed with the other business.
ORDER OF BUSINESS.
CATHAOIRLEACH
If Senators come in while the counting is proceeding, will they be allowed to vote?
CATHAOIRLEACH
That is a very nice point.
If it is agreed to of course I see no objection to going on.
CATHAOIRLEACH
I quite agree.
Some Senators may think that my motion is the first business to be taken and they might like to be here when the election takes place.
CATHAOIRLEACH
My interest in the matter is that Mr. Brown is a very busy man and this is a highly technical matter, as the voting is by proportional representation. Perhaps if I allow Senators to come in up to 3.30 p.m. to vote that will meet the views of the Seanad.
Agreed.
