Vol. 16 No. 2

Public Business—Resumed. - Motion by Senator Gogarty.

Cathaoirleach

Senator Gogarty has intimated that he desires, with the consent of the Seanad, to postpone until next Wednesday consideration of the following motion on the Order Paper:—

"That the Seanad is of the opinion that it is time for the Government to return to a policy of love for Ireland instead of hatred for England."

Is the motion in order at all? The Senator should bring in a yo-yo, and play with it.

Cathaoirleach

The motion is on the Order Paper by my instructions.

I propose that it be postponed indefinitely.

Cathaoirleach

Does the House give permission for the postponement of the motion?

I would like to enter a protest against the postponement. I would not be in the Seanad to-day but for this motion. I want to protest against anything of the kind. Because, in my opinion, it is not attached to anything—I bow to your decision, Sir, in giving the judgment that the matter is in order—but in my opinion it is not attached to anything either legislative or administrative or anything else. It is merely expressing an intangible sentiment or emotion, and, personally, I think that the status of this House is none too good in the country already and a motion of this kind is likely to bring the House into still more disrepute and ridicule.

Cathaoirleach

The question before me is whether the House will allow me to postpone Senator Gogarty's motion, and I now put that question.

Question agreed to.
