Vol. 101 No. 8

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1, 2, 5, 3 and 8. Nos. 1 and 2 are motions setting up the Joint Committee on Women's Rights and the Joint Committee on Marriage Breakdown. In regard to those motions I should like to apologise to the House for the absence of the Minister of State with responsibility for Women's Affairs, Deputy Fennell, who is indisposed. I am sure Senators will join with me in wishing her a speedy recovery. As the motions have been fully discussed earlier there may not be a necessity for a debate on them now. Item No. 5 is a simple Bill and the Opposition are aware of the necessity for it. When it is concluded we will deal with the Local Government (Planning and Development) Bill, 1983.

What is the intention of the Leader of the House in regard to the Committee and Final Stages of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Bill?

We propose, in order to facilitate the Opposition, that Committee and subsequent Stages will be taken on Thursday. That will give the Opposition an opportunity to table amendments. Naturally, we would prefer to get all Stages together but, in fairness, we want to give the Opposition all the time they need to debate the matter and table amendments. It is proposed that on Thursday morning we will take the remaining Stages of that Bill.

Order of Business agreed to.
